National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, membership-based organization that builds resiliency in communities nationwide. It serves as the forum where organizations share knowledge and resources throughout the disaster cycle – preparation, response, recovery and mitigation – to help disaster survivors and their communities.
National VOAD Member Organizations
Founded in 1970, National VOAD Member organizations have worked tirelessly to assist communities affected by disasters. The VOAD movement has grown to include more than 100 Member organizations.
National VOAD Member organizations represent a diverse group of highly-competent organizations that provide a wide range of skills in service to our fellow man, our communities and our nation. All organizations have service-oriented missions and include volunteer engagement as a key component of their operations.
Emotional and Spiritual Care
The NVOAD Emotional and Spiritual Care Committee’s mission is to foster emotional and spiritual care to people affected by disaster in cooperation with national, state and local response organizations and VOADs.
The National VOAD ESCC accomplishes its mission in several ways:
- Embracing the unique contribution of various mental health disciplines and faith based groups.
- Identify specific issues of emotional and spiritual needs as a significant component of disaster response.
- Educate state and local VOADs and non-affiliated partners about emotional and spiritual needs in disasters.
- Promote best practices, standards and models to provide effective emotional and spiritual care.
